About the Event

USCCA’s “Women’s Handgun & Self-Defense Fundamentals” is a welcoming and engaging training guide created by a woman for women who are seeking to begin, improve upon, or add to their firearms skills. With three distinct modules (Women's Basic Pistol, Women's Intermediate Pistol, and Women's Defensive Pistol), this course is designed to reach students who are brand new to firearms and those who are ready to learn more about defensive shooting. Basics and fundamentals will be introduced, reviewed, and then built upon, while also exploring situational awareness, common types of handguns, ammunition types, malfunctions, firearms handling skills, defensive pistol fundamentals, and the use of deadly force. Whether you’ve never touched a firearm, you’re looking for the next steps in your training, or you’ve chosen to learn about the skills, tools, and mindset needed to use firearms for self-defense, you can be prepared to carry confidently every day with tips and techniques from experienced women in the world of firearms.

This 1/2-day Women's Only Basic Module lays the foundation for all future pistol training. Safety, range etiquette, clearing, loading, equipment, fundamentals of fire, common mistakes, and firearm safety mindset are the main subjects tackled in this essential course. Though this training is designed for beginners, the subject matter and technique allows students to build realistic skills that can survive the test of stress and small time constraints.

This class will cover the basic requirements set forth by the State of Maryland for the application of a Maryland Handgun Qualification License.  In addition to those requirements, students will learn about selection of a firearm based on purpose & planned usage, care & cleaning of their firearm and will shoot at least 10 rounds to include reloading.

If you are NOT a Maryland resident, this class will teach basic handgun safety with live fire.  When there is an out-of-state student, we cover law specific to that state, typically, that is Pennsylvania.

Maryland Requirements

State Firearm Law - Overview of the State firearm laws, including discussion of what constitutes a regulated firearm, how to properly purchase or transfer a firearm, where allowed to carry or transport a firearm, when necessary to possess a carry permit, who is prohibited from possessing firearms, and state law relating to minors, permissible levels of force, and use of deadly force.

Home Firearm Safety - Overview of handgun and firearm safety in the home, including discussion of access to minors, locking and storing of firearms, and use of safety devices, such as secure lock boxes.

Handgun Mechanisms and Operation - Overview of the proper operation and safe handling of a handgun, including cleaning and maintenance, the loading and unloading of ammunition, and the differences between revolvers and semi-automatic handguns.

Operation and Handling Demonstration - Orientation component that demonstrates the person’s safe operation and handling of a firearm, to include a “live fire” component in which the applicant safely shoots the weapon.

The class material for Handgun 1 - Basic Firearms Safety Class is derived from the USCCA's Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals book, but does NOT grant the student with the required training to apply for a Maryland Wear & Carry permit.

A Basic Firearm Safety Training Certificate will be issued to each student at the successful completion of class.  Some states will accept this as their requirement for training to apply for a concealed handgun permit. If you are unsure, please speak with the instructor prior to registering. The intent of this class is to teach basic handgun safety as required to apply for the State of Maryland Handgun Qualification License.  This is NOT a concealed carry & home defense course.  By registering, you acknowledge this information.  No refunds will be offered.  If you cannot attend the registered class, a credit will be offered for a future class, good for 1-year from original class date.

All students will be required to sign a waiver & hold harmless agreement before class releasing Donald K. Miller II, SAFE Firearms Training, LLC and Seitzland Rifle Club of any responsibility after the class.  SAFE Firearms Training, LLC does carry liability insurance for any issues that arise during the class. CDC, WHO & State guidelines about COVID-19 will be followed.  Surfaces will be cleaned prior to class, but students do attend at their own risk.
